vista media center no movies found

Hi, Recently installed vista and all is going okay so far. Set up the Media Center. It has found my MP3's okay but when I select a directory, which is full of AVI's in the Movies section it finds nothing.
I have a feeling I must be missing something, any help would be appreciated.

MCE reads only WMV and MPEG only, sadly.

Howcome I can't even play the sample videos come loaded with Vista? When I mouse over a video, it just "enlarge" it, but when i click the mouse, nothing happens. Why?
